Blue Majik Unicorn Smoothie
Blue Majik Spirulina is a fairytale smoothie experience.
Seriously, my smoothies are truly looking like royalty these days. Move over Kate Middleton, there’s a new princess in town. I need to be fully honest with you guys and so I’m going to tell you a little secret. Most food bloggers will tell you they use "X” superfood everyday to support “X” health initiative; but that’s not me. I bought Blue Majik Spirulina because it makes for pretty pictures. The thirst is real, people! No shame, though. I might be the only one admitting it, but I’m not the only one guilty of it.
#DoItForTheGram: A Memoir.
I wish I was kidding, but such is the life of a millennial trying to make an imprint on this highly saturated social media market. You feel me? And in the name of doing it for the gram, I decided to be a bit #extra with this blue majik unicorn smoothie recipe. Starbucks Unicorn Frap, be gone—a mere peasant in comparison to my beverage.
One, it’s way healthier. Like no, I didn’t buy blue spirulina for the health benefits; but, I am definitely a health-conscious person and always trying to recreate my unhealthy favorites into a veganized, minimal-ingredient version. Two, it’s way cheaper than buying a Starbucks frap. Let’s be real, my little turmoilers. Ain’t nobody got a budget for fancy Starbucks drinks every damn day. And if you do, will you adopt me?
I enlisted two superfood powders to make this unicorn smoothie possible.
When you take a majestical, fire-breathing creature and throw it in a blender (Gasp! Is that vegan?), you get a unicorn! Dragons and unicorns are absolutely real. In edible form, that is.
Blue Majik Unicorn Smoothie
Use This:
2 frozen bananas
1/2 cup frozen mango
1 scoop salted caramel protein powder (OR vanilla protein powder; I used Blessed Protein Salted Caramel)
2/3 cup vanilla nut milk (I used homemade cashew milk with my ELLIE’S BEST - 10% OFF with code SAMMIBROOKE)
1 scoop blue majik spirulina (I used E3Live Blue Majik)
2 tsp dragon fruit powder (OR 1/3 cup frozen dragon fruit; I used Wilderness Poets Dragon Fruit Powder)
Toppings: coconut shreds + Early Bird Food Granola
Do This:
Combine all ingredients in a blender EXCEPT the dragon fruit powder. (Learn how to make homemade nut milk here)
Stop & scrape. I sound like a broken record, but that simple step is a serious game changer in your smoothie consistency.
Once fully combined, scoop out half of your blue smoothie and place it in the freezer.
Add the dragon fruit powder. Blend and prepare to be mesmerized as the color transforms right before your little eyes.
Throw some coconut shreds at the bottom of your cup. Pour in some of your blue smoothie. Throw in some granola. Pour in some of your purple smoothie. Layer in some granola AND coconut shreds if you’re feeling really adventurous. Pour in the rest of your blue smoothie and top with more granola if you’re a true savage like me.
Go show Agnus from Despicable Me that unicorns really do exist!
