NuGo Series: Whoopie! Protein Cookies
If Whoopie Goldberg bakes a pie, is it a Whoopie Pie?
These are things I wonder at 3 a.m. when I can’t sleep. Nevertheless, I digress. The real reason you came here was to learn how to indulge in a Whoopie Pie without the guilt. Listen, eating clean is a lifestyle and it’s challenging. Especially, when temptation lurks not only at every corner, but also every store you pass on your way to that corner. Am I right, or am I right?
A major contributor to turmoil in your twenties is the weight gain that comes along with it.
You’re getting older and biologically, your body is preparing for childbirth. There’s nothing wrong with feeling a little uncomfortable in your skin as you notice your body changing, but at some point you’ve got to soften that harsh glare you give your belly in the mirror on the way to the shower, and accept that you will exhaust yourself trying to outrun the nature of being a woman. We’ve got curves. We’re soft in some places. Heck, maybe in lots of places. And we freakin’ love chocolate. It’s good for us—you know, iron and all that.
Repeat after me: you do not need to eat lettuce and almonds to be healthy.
Oh, and also…you can eat that chocolate cookie. I’m talking about that Double Chocolate NuGo Cookie. Because inside of it is 16g of protein and 10-12g of fiber. Hello, healthy colon. We don’t live in the stone ages anymore (aka the 1970’s) and we know a lot more about health food than we used to way, way, way back in the day (sorry, ma). NuGo Cookies contain zero artificial sweeteners or sugar alcohols. You might be asking why that matters and I’ll tell you point blank: that shit will bloat you like a balloon. That ain’t cute.
I know I’m rambling, but stay with me for a minute.
I wanted to take something that is already healthy and delicious (ayyyy, NuGo Cookie) and turn it into something even better. It’s like putting on your favorite top and adding a trendy necklace to dress it up. That’s when I decided to make my own “Whoopie Pie” of the sorts. Guess how many ingredients I used…THREE. Yuh-huh, it’s true.
Here’s what I started with…
Here’s what I created…
Use This:
1 container dairy-free vanilla yogurt (I used Silk Vanilla Soy Milk Yogurt)
1 Tbs vegan vanilla protein powder (I used Vega Clean Protein)
Hands for assembly & about 90 seconds
Do This:
Pour the yogurt into a bowl and mix in the protein powder, 1 tsp at a time. Mix well until you reach a smooth consistency.
Cut your Double Chocolate NuGo Cookie in half. Lather on that vanilla frosting like there’s no tomorrow.
Eat it and feel glorious.
